Urban

Crissy Field and San Francisco Cityscape

Almost a third of all national parks are located in urban areas, challenging park leaders to serve a diverse and growing population while navigating issues like gentrification, homelessness, and technology.

The Institute is at the intersection of parks and urban innovation, working toward sustainable solutions that address disparities and connect more people to green spaces in their cities. We stand at the forefront of discovery, exploring ways to increase relevancy while moving parks beyond conventional recreation roles. Through conducting practical research and hosting collaborative communities of practice, we develop resources that can be adapted and implemented in these dynamic environments.
